An audience of about 30 joined us to remember Barat College at this wonderful lecture and book signing relating the school's history. Five Religious of the Sacred Heart founded an academy in Chicago in 1860, which moved to Lake Forest in 1904. Evolving from the academy, Barat College graduated its first class in 1920. The school was named after the founder of the Society of the Sacred Heart, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat.

Sister Martha Curry gave an illustrated talk about her book Barat College: A Legacy, A Spirit and A Name. Sister Curry, a Religious of the Society of the Sacred Heart, is an alumna and former member of the English faculty of Barat College. Through extensive new research, Sister Curry paints Barat College within the context of larger historical and religious movements.
