On October 27, 2012, the Historical Society honored John H. Bryan, business leader and cultural visionary, as a Local Legend before a crowd of over 300 at Lake Forest High School's Raymond Moore Auditorium. Renowned journalist Bill Kurtis interviewed Mr. Bryan about his life, his work and his collections. Topics included his family history in Mississippi, his introduction the the world of business and time at the helm of Sara Lee, his support and leadership for Chicago-area icons like Millennium Park, the Modern Wing, and the Farnsworth house, and his collections and preservation efforts at Crab Tree Farm.

Local Legends is the Historical Society's annual signature event and fundraiser. The unique "live interview" format, before a packed auditorium, is perfect for candid reminiscing and behind-the-scenes anecdotes. Previous Local Legends include astronaut James Lovell and architect Adrian Smith.
