Adopt An Artifact

Looking for a unique holiday gift? Adopt An Artifact for a friend or loved one!

This holiday season, give a gift to future generations – preserve our history by adopting an artifact! For a gift of $20, you can adopt one of the three artifacts in the Historical Society collection pictured below. Delight friends or loved ones by adopting an artifact in their honor, or show your pride in Lake Forest/Lake Bluff history by adopting one for yourself.

Proceeds from this adoption will support the preservation, storage and management of our museum collection of over 15,000 artifacts just as unique and delightful as these three. Adoptions are one year in duration and are non-exclusive - many donors can adopt the same artifact.

Wooden nickels,
First National Bank of Lake Forest

These were good for one bag of fresh popcorn, popped in an old-fashioned machine in the bank lobby (now the Northern Trust) $20

Hansen’s Children’s Shop

Created by an employee, this beautiful diorama captures the clothing store for children and infants run by George and Frances Hansen on Westminster like no photograph ever could. $20

Fire helmet, Lake Forest
Volunteer Fire Department

This helmet was worn by the captain of the Lake Forest Volunteer Fire Department in the 1910s, when the city purchased its first motorized hose-and-ladder truck. $20

What do you get when you Adopt an Artifact?

We will send you (or the recipient of your choice) an adoption packet, which includes:

  • A certificate of adoption
  • A fact sheet about the artifact and its historical significance
  • Recognition on our website when the artifact is featured next year on our monthly Collections Cameo blog, as well as in a mini-exhibit of these artifacts on display in our museum through April 2014

It’s a wonderful holiday gift for someone who wants to remember and preserve our community treasures! And don't forget your gift is tax-deductible. (You'll have a chance on the PayPal page to review your donation and put in gift information - but if you have a question, don't hesitate to contact us.)

How else can I help?

Share with friends! We will be posting about the drive on Twitter, Facebook and by email. Please consider sharing our posts with your friends and asking them to support our cause. It’s a simple way to make a huge difference.
